BEST FOODS TO MAKE YOU FIT THIS MONSOON
Monsoon is a great season to enjoy & have fun.It is here giving a respite from the sweltering heat. But at the same time it brings low immunity, low metabolic rate, & many diseases along with it. So to be fit & healthy we should follow mother NATURE & try to find what is "in" & what is "out" of the season.
We should be thinking food in terms of CROP CYCLE, CLIMATE CULTURE e.t.c. According to this, it's not the time to grow green leafy veggies, because the soil becomes mushy. Instead of this creepers are grown in this season.
Say no to...
- Green leafy veggies such as spinach, methi, cabbage, broccoli, lettuce e.t.c because the damp & filthy condition in monsoon plays host to various diseases causing germs that can be harmful for your health.
- Salad, juices, smoothies or anything made from these green leafy vegetables.
- Stale food or food kept in the fridge for long.
- Bajra, multigrain biscuits, cookies, cakes and stuffs like that.
- Street foods that are more susceptible to cause infections
Say yes to....
- All the creepy vegetables of this season such as Lauki (bottle gourd), Karela (bitter gourd),tinda (Indian squash), parwal (pointed gourd), Kheksa(teasel gourd) these are rich in all the vitamins & minerals that we require in this season.
- Fruits like Jamun are powerhouse of nutrients like potassium, folate & iron which are very helpful in monsoon season. Lichi & pomegranate is full of antioxidants which boosts immunity.
- Different varieties of pulses. They are a rich source of minerals, vitamin B12 & fibers. In India about 65000 different varieties of pulses are grown. We should have at least 6-10 varieties in a month. White lentils & Goa beans are the two special ones to have in this season.
- Grains such as Ragi, Jowar, Makkai (corn) are the grains of the rains! You can consume them in the form of porridge, Kheer, Bhakari & Khichri If you are eating Makkai , eat the desi one & not the American corn. Roast it and eat it with lemon & salt or boil it & eat it.
- Bhajia & chai .Yes you can have deep fried bhajia in this season along with a hot cup of tea.
Conclusion
- To keep yourself away from infections & diseases in the monsoon season you must eat what is in the season and avoid what is out.
- whenever we eat differently in different seasons we promote diversity & in diversity lies the wholesomeness & goodness of good life. So are you going to follow these tips ? Also let me know which is your favorite food of this season in the comment box.
